My Astrological sign is Aries.
I grew up in Canberra, but now live in Queensland.
I work as .....Run my own Supplement Company 'Fit Chic Nutrition' Personal Trainer, HPE, maths and science teacher (substitute now), ladies outdoor boot-camp instructor, spinning instructor , and now run my own website . I am a very busy girl!
My qualifications are.... Bachelor of Exercise Science, Bachelor of Education (HPE Major & Biology Major), Diploma of Recreation (13 units), Certificate IV Personal Trainer, Certificate II Strength and Conditioning.
For breakfast ....I usually eat Oat and Egg White Pancakes.
In my fridge.... I have lots of bottles of water, diet cordial, chicken, fish, vegetables, fruit and eggs.
At the gym you will find me in.... anything Lorna Jane. The girls know me very well there! I also love bonds singlets and my air max shoes.
I love training.... my shoulders because there is such a variety of exercises, and good shoulders make your waist, hips and butt look smaller! It’s all illusion ladies!
I hate training.... nothing. If training starts to feel like a chore I change it up immediately.
I’d love to workout with.... Mindi Smith. Have been to Jen’s Phat Camp and that was fantastic. She is a truly amazing woman who genuinly cares for people, and wants to make a difference. Love Mindi's look, and she is such a great role model in how to be in the sport.
I never leave home without.... my mobile phone, my cooler and bottle of water.
Favourite music.... I listen to everything from heavy metal to pop, and anything in between. It really depends on my mood and what I am doing or what I am training.
My best feature is.... that I am honest and genuinely care. I am often staying back for hours after classes or sessions talking to people and trying to give them as much help and information as I can. I never seem to have enough time to tell people all about it.
I would love to meet.... Oprah. I hope one day she does a show on Fitness and Figure competitions to educate the rest of the world on the benefits of living this lifestyle.
Favourite cheat food.... BASKIN & ROBBINS!, Sushi at our special sushi place, Coles bakery choc chip cookies, but all in moderation of course!
On my bedside table are.... copies Oxygen magazine (both American and Australian editions – addicted!) and “I have just finished reading Terri Irwin’s book, My Steve”.
Best beauty secret.... No secrets! I share any knowledge and information that I have gathered over the years. Women need to stick together and support each other in achieving their dreams and aspirations. It is a simple recipe of exercise, clean foods and making the right lifestyle choices.
Who inspires you.... My Girls! The ladies I train are phenomenal. They inspire me to push myself harder for greater things. I am in awe of how hard they work to achieve their goals. I have been doing this fitness thing my whole life so it comes naturally to me. To see these girls change their lives makes me feel so happy. They become a completely new person. There is no way for me to describe how I feel about their achievements. Aaargh!! It gives me butterflies just thinking about it.
What have you learnt from competing?.... You know the greatest gain I have got from this sport...friendships from other women competitors. I guess for most it is hard to believe, but I can tell you there are some phenomenal women in this sport. Since competing I have met some truly amazing and inspirational girls that would go beyond the call for you without hardly knowing you. There is such a big support network out there, and together we spend time chatting, messaging, coffee’ing’ etc to help each other with daily struggles. It’s really nice for me to have the more experienced girls help me learn my way in the sport, and from there I can also pass that knowledge down to the new girls coming through. Through others I have gained a much better perspective on not just competing, but life.
The question I’m most asked are a few common questions from women. Here are my top 5:
- What do you eat?
I eat 7 to 8 times a day to keep my metabolism firing. I eat lean protein at every meal to maintain muscle and keep me satisfied. I have good carbs like fruit, oats and sweet potato to give me the energy I need to get through my busy life. I also make sure I have fibrous green vegetables at least 3 times a day.
- How often do you train?
6 Days a week. I like to split my weights from cardio, but if that’s not an option I do my weights first then cardio after.
3. How do I get my legs lean?
I train upper body and lower body very differently. Upper body I train heavy and for low repetitions so I can build muscle. The trick is to have a nice V-taper (wide back and broad shoulders) in order to make your lower body look smaller. Legs I train with high repetitions and usually body weighted exercises. I use plyometrics and hill sprints to lean my legs out.
4. How do I get abs like yours?
Firstly, we all have abs. It’s just that most of us have too high body fat levels so we can’t see them. The only way to get visable abs is to stick to a clean eating plan. It doesn’t matter how many ab exercises you do, if you don’t strip back that layer of, fat you won’t be able to see them.
I eat well and have cut all the fat out of my diet but still can’t lose the last few kilos of body fat. Why is that?
Ladies you need to eat good fats, like flaxseed oil, nuts, avocados and certain oils. If you don’t feed your body a constant supply of good fats your body will not release the last bit of body fat.
5. My biggest pet peeve is excuses!
Whilst competing my first year I travelled through 3 states within one week. I caught six flights and did not buy one meal. I was never without my esky and Tupperware.
